Casino Royale rumble

In true James Bond style, Rogue magazine and URCC stage the country’s first black-tie MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) event at the Hyatt ballroom

MANILA, Philippines—From your ringside seat with a view to kill for, you may just exchange furtive glances with a debonair British spy, irresistibly suave but suitably arrogant, as he slithers his way past a shaken-and-stirred crowd in starched tuxedos and slinky evening gowns—all of whom are in for a night of chaos and carnage.

In true James Bond style, Rogue magazine and the Hyatt Hotel & Casino Manila are set to stage an action-packed evening that is the first of its kind: the Black Tie Brawl, a formal Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event that will take place in the center of hotel’s elegant ballroom next Saturday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m.

For the full “Casino Royale” effect, there will be on-site betting facilities, as well as unlimited whisky, champagne, and vodka (or vodka martinis, naturally). Executive chef Daniel Patterson has also been commissioned to whip up a customized five-course dinner to, well, die for.

Powered by the Universal Reality Combat Championship (URCC), the night’s eight challenges will be paired in different weight categories. Seasoned and professional URCC champions and guest fighters from Elorde, Lakay Wushu, Gym Kata, and Hybrid Yaw Yan will slug it out—sans the gloves—to the bitter end, all for a shot at fame and glory.

Premier tickets are priced at P6,000, while Ringside tickets are priced at P10,000. To make most out the weekend, guests may also avail of Hyatt’s discounted overnight packages, which will include entry to the fight. They have a choice between the Premier Room Package (P15,000 for single occupancy and P21,000 for double occupancy) or the Ringside Room Package (P18,000 for single occupancy and P30,000 for double occupancy).

All packages come with a buffet breakfast at Market Cafe, access to the hotel’s outdoor pool, unlimited access to the Club Oasis fitness center, a bonus bet coupon worth P500 (for use in the casino), a choice of a one-hour standard treatment at the spa, and tickets to the Black Tie Brawl.

In the words of 007 himself: “Shocking. Positively shocking.”

Tickets are going fast and seats are limited! For reservations, call Rogue at 729-7747, Hyatt at 245-1234, or URCC at 659-2477.
