?TWILIGHT?
There?s a little teenage girl in all of us, apparently. When ?Breaking Dawn,? the newest book in the ?Twilight? series, hit the shelves, everyone went wild. The teen romance between a girl and a vampire split people into two camps?those who adored it and those who didn?t. Nevertheless, ?Twilight? became the biggest literary sensation of 2008, and Edward Cullen?s the world?s most sought-after bite.
Eraserheads reunion
The multitude flocked to The Fort open grounds to relive the best of original Pilipino music. The band that defined a generation in the ?90s finally decided to give the fans one more high-energy moment. Raimund, Buddy, Marcus and Ely of the Eraserheads came onstage and the crowd went wild. ?Fruitcake,? ?Ligaya,? ?Toyang??each song released a wave of nostalgia that sent the crowd surfing in a sea of bliss.
Then it ended after the first set. Ely Buendia had to be rushed to the hospital, and the reunion became more bittersweet than anything else. Instead of being overcome with rage, the crowd bowed its head in unison and prayed.
One set was all we got from the band that gave us the soundtrack of our younger days. But it was enough.
Facebook
Throwing sheep, giving nicknames, tagging pictures, commenting on everything, and the ever variable status message?Facebook is the only social networking site that manages to truly capture one?s personality with all these applications!
Facebook exploded into the pop culture in 2007 and drew in everyone in 2008. There are games such as word twist and scrabble to keep the mind sharp while you display your virtual bookshelf and music collection for everyone to see. Those wall posts, too, are way more fun than a testimonial.
The layout changed late this year, but that hasn?t stopped people from poking and adding friends. Even the most resistant of Internet buffs have been lured to Facebook.
Skateboarding
The youth always get a bum wrap. They do crazy things that can get them seriously injured, like, say, skateboarding. But doing stunts on a plank with wheels is more an expression of hyper energy, of the skater?s soul. All that teen angst has to go somewhere, and better skating than drugs. It?s the freedom of movement; it?s navigating the urban landscape and overcoming obstacles with your whole body and your most basic, primal instincts. Super salutes the wild freedom of the skater.
Rock Band
In the comfort of your home, you can be the rock star you?ve always wanted to be?The Killers, The Pixies, Garbage, Hole, and even Metallica. Rock Band is a game that allows you to channel all your musical frustrations into a night filled with fun and delusions of grandeur.
Harmonix Music System gave us a game that is compatible with Playstation, Xbox and Wii, and lets us play with a guitar, a drum set and a microphone in tune with some of the most-loved rock songs ever produced. These are songs that are on constant repeat on our iPods, anyway, so playing them over and over again is no problem. Switch roles from vocalist to guitarist, or from bassist to drummer, and you?ve got variation. Rock Band 2 just came out with new songs from Fleetwood Mac, Alanis Morissette, Guns and Roses, Sonic Youth, The Who... the list goes on. It?s time to rock and roll!
