SUPER EXCLUSIVE
Super celebrity round-up

By Juana Manahan, Wanggo Gallaga
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, Philippines—Celebrity status today is exactly that: a status. One can be an overnight sensation by doing absolutely nothing and just famous for being famous. Blogs, newspaper photos and magazine features quickly elevate the everyday socialite or the guy in the next barrio to a recognizable face. However, nothing shouts celebrity more then a bunch of screaming fans, numerous endorsements and skyrocketing careers that promise for a comfortable early retirement. What better way to define celebrity than from the mouths of those who have surpassed celebrity into superstardom.

Bea Alonzo

What’s the most expensive freebie you’ve ever received?
It was a watch from Ate Kris’ show. It’s a Philip Stein watch.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done for you?
I found it weird the first time I saw their banners. I was like, ‘really? Fans are true!’ That was weird for me.

Do you think you’re a celebrity?
No.

Why not?
I am not really into being a star. I just want to act.

Victor Basa

What are the perks of being a celebrity?
Well, I know it sounds kind of bad, but when in lines, sometimes at the mall, they open up a cashier just for you. Other advantages? It gives you a platform where you can speak if you want to promote a charity or anything. It’s also cool.

What is the most expensive freebie that you’ve ever received?
Wayfarer shades.

Zanjoe Marudo

When did you realize you were a celebrity?
After PBB.

Weirdest thing a fan has ever done for you?

What’s the most expensive thing they’ve bought for you?
iPod, printer for the camera. Shoes and bags…

Diether Ocampo

What are the advantages of being a celebrity?
I think there are more disadvantages in being a celebrity! (laughs) You know the typical trade off of being a celebrity—you lose a big portion of your privacy and I think it’s inevitable. But the perks of being a celebrity, otherwise, you get away with things normal people don’t.

Give one example of a perk.
Getting flagged down by the police when you break the traffic rules. Normally, the police would even assist you and apologize to you. It’s so absurd!

Roxanne Guinoo

What’s the most expensive freebie you’ve ever received?
They gave me an LV bag.

What is the weirdest thing a fan has ever done for you?
Madami eh!

Kim Chiu

Was there a point when you realized you were a celebrity?

Who do you consider a celebrity?
Si Heart (Evangelista).

Jake Cuenca

Best part about being a celebrity?
Best part is probably acting and having a chance to be a role model. Show biz really gave me a goal. I have a lot to be grateful for with show business. It gave me a goal, focus, direction…

What is the most expensive freebie you’ve been given?
I got a couple of cool things over the years but I’d think Bench is one of them. In a monthly basis I have a new wardrobe from Bench and that’s not such a bad thing. I’m really thankful to Bench for that.

What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever done for you?
Probably waiting in my house for almost a day. There’s this fan that keeps waiting in my house. In all fairness to him, I’m thankful for his support but it’s still a bit weird.

Gerald Anderson

What are the perks of being a celebrity?
A lot of people are nice to you. They give you things.

What is the most expensive thing you’ve ever received from your fans?
A flat screen TV. Or the laptop? No! It was the flat screen.

What are the disadvantages of being a celebrity?
You have to control what you do. You can’t just go out and go wild. No sleep, maybe, if you’re really busy.

Julia Barretto

Pumunta kami sa Trinoma for ASAP. Nadapa ako dahil ang daming tao.

Na-mob ka?
Oo.

Rayver Cruz and Shaina Magdayao

Who is a celebrity for you?
SM: Siguro my idol si Piolo and si Claudine.

What are the advantages of being famous?
SM: Well, the perks—you get to meet new friends and we get to inspire people.

What are the disadvantages of being famous?
SM: Invasion of privacy… (laughs)
