THE JONAS BROTHERS
Squeaky clean, but they rock

By Niño Mark Sablan

THE Jonas Brothers? Kevin, 21; Joe, 19; Nick, 16?are on top of the world. Disney is taking excellent care of them. Their second album is selling like banana walnut pancakes. They are musical superstars to millions of teens. They just won T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist at the recent American Music Awards.

And they?re also involved in a bunch of exciting projects: a 3-D concert movie, a behind-the-scenes book, a big screen debut.

With all these accomplishments, and given how the industry is a breeding ground for self-destruction, you?d expect the boys to be ruining their careers by now through rock star misbehavior.

But, in fact, they?re doing an excellent job as role models. Below are some reasons why these good boys are good for today?s teens.

They have good taste in music. Sure, they did the usual revivals when they were younger, such as a couple of hits from British boy-band Busted (which weren?t really bad). But now that they are older, their music has definitely matured and improved.

Their latest album called ?A Little Bit Longer? proves just how much the three have grown musically. The title track, for example, is all about Nick?s battle with diabetes, so expect a lot of real emotions translated to words and music.

They also cover amazing artists and songs during their live performances, including John Mayer?s ?Gravity? and Bob Marley?s ?Waiting in Vain.?

Just how musically adventurous are these guys? They want to team up with rapper Kanye West. But they don?t talk-sing about murdering the next-door neighbor, sniffing drugs or enjoying fornication.

They look good. We?re not just talking about Joe?s lush eyebrows and his debonair looks, or Kevin?s mature and responsible aura, or even Nick?s pinch-inducing cuteness.

What?s really impressive about the brothers is their sense of fashion. These teens are making more boys their age wrap scarves around their necks and slip into pairs and pairs of skinny jeans, with matching pointy boots.

From the preppy look consisting of popped collars and lots of plaids, to dapper, debonair ensembles of immaculate suits and shirts, the Jonas brothers look smashing in everything.

They value their virginity. All three brothers have promised to abstain from sex until marriage, even wearing purity rings to symbolize their commitment.

According to Nick, the rings are just one of the ways they can be different from everyone else. His is a ring made at Disney World, while Kevin?s is a rock-and-roll-inspired band from Tiffany, and Joe?s is a silver one adorned with a cross.

Their abstinence pledge and purity rings have attracted a lot of attention, both good and bad. 2008 MTV VMA host Russell Brand, for instance, mocked them because of these, which led celebs such as Paris Hilton and Perez Hilton to defend the boys for their good values.

They are family-oriented. The Brothers family is very much intact: dad Kevin Sr., mom Denise, Kevin, Joe and Nick, plus younger brother Frankie. So close are they that even if the brothers were touring during Christmas season last year, they had a little tree on the tour bus and still celebrated Christmas together at a hotel.

This year, though, they?re planning to hold it at their new Dallas area homestead.
